“Georgian Wines produced in special clay vessels are called qvevri wines. This traditional way of fermenting and storing wines in such vessels has long roots deep in historical past and is known as oldest method of winemaking of humankind. We take the opportunity to introduce to you the sales of production of such wines with full observation of the ancient traditions. In this tour you will be able to witness moments of the traditional grape harvest and delivery of grapes to these mysterious clay vessels in places called ‘marani’ – a special word that Georgians use for places where they produce and at the same time store their wines. Village wineries of the regions of Kakheti, Kartli and Imereti are waiting for us!”

Our route begins from a lesser-known western Georgian appellation called Sviri, where wines of qvevri are produced in little wineries in the Imeretian villages from three white grape varieties (Krakhuna, Tsistska, and Tsolikauri) and one red grape variety (Otskhanuri Sapere). From this place, we move to the Kartli region and visit the other lesser known wine production area of Georgia – Ateni. the valley of the small river Tana accommodates number of micro wine producers. Here the white grape variety of Atenuri Chinuri and red Tavkveri make an excellent source of very interesting and unique local wines. And finally, we move to Kakheti region – the heart of Georgian winemaking – representing the vast majority of Georgian wine appellations. We visit the Georgian capital Tbilisi on the way to Kakheti.

Day 1

After the airport pickup, we go directly to Sviri appellation, known for its unique vineyeards consisting of Western Georgian grape varieties. Wine of Sviri is name after the little village located at the heart of this appellation. After the pleasant ethnographic dinner in Imeretian style, we head to Kutaisi to check in the hotel and relax. Here we stay overnight.

Day 2

Late breakfast and departure. We head to the UNESCO heritage sites first – visit Bagrati Cathedral and Gelati Monastery. Lunch is waiting for us in the mountainous village of Imereti just before we mov to Kartli region. We are heading towards Ateni village also known for its historical heritage and monuments. Later we will have a wine master class in one of the local wine cellars that we will be visiting on our way. For dinner we stop in Mukhrani village – famous place for royal dynasty of Bagrationis. Georgian capital Tbilisi is waiting for us to relax at the end of the day and stay overnight.

Day 3

Centre of Tbilisi is at our disposal right from the morning. Her in the oldest part of the city we are on foot walking in the first streets of the town.  As soon as the breakfast ends we will head to the fortress of Narikala to enjoy the stunning view over the old town. The dinner will be hosted in one of the restaurants of Tbilisi suburbs on the way to Kakheti region. We are heading to the mountains where we will visit cultural monuments and enjoy the view on beautiful nature. On the dinner we join the local winemaker in the village of Shalauri. We stay overnight in the Kakhetian capital – Telavi.

Day 4

After the checkout we visit the old monastery Alaverdi and its wine cellar where we taste the finest qvevri wines. For the lunch, we stop at one of the most exotic restaurants Saperavi known for its special dishes as well as special location and environment. At the end of our tour we take you from Kakheti to Tbilisi International airport.
