The route goes through the less known Western Georgian viticultural appellation – Sviri where qvevri wines are made in unique small wine cellars from three local white grape varieties (Krakhuna, Tsiska and Tsolikouri) and one red grape variety (Otskhanuri Sapere). From this place we move towards Kartli to visit another less known appellation of Ateni valley with its small village wine callars. Here wines made from two grape varieties are waiting for us – Atenuri Chinuri and Tavkveri. And at last we go to Kakheti – the heart of Georgian winemaking hosting most of the Georgian wine appellations. We will visit Georgian capital Tbilisi on the way to Kakheti.
After the pick up at Kutaisi airport, we will straightly heat to the centre of Sviri wine region famous for three white grape varieties of western Georgia. Sviri wine appellation surrounds this little village with the same name. After the pleasant ethnographic dinner at one of the local wine cellars, we return to the hotel in Kutaisi to relax and stay overnight.
Late breakfast and checkout and we start introducing ourselves to the UNESCO heritage sites of Bagrati and Gelati. Lunch is expecting us in the mountainous village of Imereti before entering another region. We head towards the little village Ateni also known for its cultural heritage areas. Later on, we join the food and wine masterclasses at one of the local wine cellars we visit in the village. By the end of the day, we will arrive for dinner in Mukhrani and stay in the Georgian capital overnight.
Tbilisi town centre is will be at our disposal from the morning. As soon as breakfast is over we cross the old town on foot, visit Narikala Fortress. Our lunch will be waiting in the suburbs of Tbilisi just before departing to Kakheti region. We will head to the mountains first visiting several areas of the cultural heritage of ancient Georgia. For dinner, we join one of the local winemaker’s estates in the village. We come to the hotel at Kakhetian capital Telavi for overnight stay.
After the checkout, we visit Alaverdi Monastery and its wine cellar to taste the most famous qvevri wines today. For lunch, we go to one of the local exotic restaurants – Saperavi is known for its special dishes and the location. We will head straitly to Tbilisi airport as our lunch comes to the end.
